So yes, when we first arrived we had
lamb stir fry for dinner and a few weeks later we found ourselves
petting lambs when we visited Hobbiton. This experience of eating
lamb and then petting a lamb has turned Jasmine off the meat but it
surprisingly has had quite the opposite effect on me. It was lambing
season when we first arrived and every flock we drove by had a dozen
or so little lambs running around after their mums. And every time I
would feel a bit wolfish and get a craving for McDonald’s Serious
Lamb Burger.
Recently reintroduced to New Zealand,
the Serious Lamb Burger is amazing. It comes with the standard
American toppings (onion, lettuce, tomato etc.) but in a New Zealand
twist there are 3 (small) eggs and a few slices of beetroot (a kiwi
staple in all burgers). I have not been to a McDonald’s in the
states for some time, but the quality of the food and the environment
here is set to a much higher standard.
Seeing the lambs as we drove through
the countryside makes me feel like there is a much closer connection
between me and the food I eat.
Mary had a little lamb... at
McDonald’s... and it was tasty!
